Discovering Nicosia November 1
An amazing city, from the Bronze Age to the present day. A capital since the 12th century A.D built on layers of culture and tradition both from East and West, from both France and Jerusalem. A medieval city encircled by a unique fortification system, stemming out of la citta ideale of the Renaissance. Walking in Nicosia is encountering the past and understanding the present! We will walk through the dividing line and try to visualize, understand and appreciate the beauty of our capital in its entity.
Meeting place: All walks start from the GC check point of at the end of LEDRA STREET, returning same spot.
Necessary documents to have: Valid passport and valid ID
Description: After checking our passports/ID and having a drink, we will see the Buyuk Khan, the Cathedral of Saint Sophia, the church of Panagia Odigitria (the Bedestan), the Lapidary Museum, the church of Agia Aikaterini, the church of Agios Loukas, Kyrenia Gate, the Samanbahce quarter, the Saray Quarter, the Arab Ahment quarter; we will walk through Victoria Street, the church of St Mary of the Armenians and end up where we started our walk. It is an easy walk through the medieval city with a lot of stops where people can rest.
